The Music of the Primes - An interview

with Marcus du Sautoy

and with Helen Scales

Get Media:  View Online   Download

Following his lecture for the Millennium Mathematics Project, Marcus met Helen for an interview. Marcus explains how the primes are the building blacks of the numbers. Mathematics isn't about doing long division to many digits, but the depth of mathematics about very different things. Find out about the Mersenne Primes. Can screaming cicadas count? Messiaen's 17 and 29 note sequences. Prime numbers in football teams. How does number theory help with internet cryptography. Win lots of money with prime numbers. And much more!

(Note: Unfortunately some of our microphones failed after a few minutes into the interview, so the sound quality is variable. It's a nice interview though, and we hope you enjoy it anyway.)
