Scientists and philosophers have always been fascinated by the nature of concepts and how these are represented in the mind.Modern science,in the form of cognitive neuroscience, offers us a setof converging methods through which we are beginning to understand both where and how the brain represents concepts and meanings. With a combination of demonstrations, videos and presentations, this lecture will lead the audience through a fascinating setof investigations. These will include results from patients with neurological damage who suffer from a gradual breakdown in concepts where the distinctions between different meanings such as animals and birds are gradually lost and lead to intriguing blends - such as four- legged ducks. Join Professor Matthew Lambon Ralph to discover how advances in neuroimaging can reveal how we store and process conceptual knowledge.
