May of 2006 saw the publication of a paper in Nature describing the finalised, annotated sequence of human chromosome 1. With this paper, the Human Genome Project was finally completed. As part of a special issue of BlueSci News dedicated to the Project, Michael Marshall spoke to Dr Simon Gregory, who led the work on chromosome 1. The interview was conducted using an ISDN line to Duke University, USA. Thanks to Bronwyn Terrill and Don Powell at the Sanger Institute, and Lauren Shaftel and Cabell Smith at Duke University. Edited by Michael Marshall and Bjoern Hassler.
