Painting with Numbers - Patterns in Nature

with Marcus du Sautoy

Get Media: external link

In this programme, Professor Marcus du Sautoy explains how mathematicians use numbers and equations to represent the world around us. He demonstrates how mathematics is threaded through the natural world by taking us on a journey from plant growth through to music and football. He also meets up with Dr Mark Miodownik who uses maths to explain how the head on a pint of beer forms. Marcus hopes to prove that mathematics allows us see the world in a way that is as breathtaking as the finest works of art; that the world we live in is indeed painted with numbers.
