Mathematical Identity

Another outstanding Darwin Lecture, this time by Prof. Marcus du Sautoy from Oxford. Marcus delivered a fascinating lecture, going into the meaning of identity in mathematics. Far from common conceptions, mathematical identity is not about "=" signs, but has far wider meaning. Marcus lucidly explains Cantor's great discovery of different types of infinity, takes us through the magnificent symmetries of the Alhambra. We also find out what the tube map has to do with topology.

Also, come soon, some never before seen footage featuring Marcus lecturing for the MMP, and in an interview with Helen Scales.
