About us

What if you could watch any popular science lecture you wanted to? What if you could participate in any popular science event? What if you could find out what scientists themselves have to say about the issues that are important in society today?

ScienceLive is an initiative that seeks to bring some of the best popular science events (discussions, lectures, interviews) directly to your home, so that you can watch these events whenever and from whereever you can.

Vision

The vision for ScienceLive is to radically broaden access to science events by using internet video. Our premise is that in this way, many more people will be able to benefit from this content. The content will be of interest to the general public, and range from the entertaining to serious discussion of the aspects of the science that matter most to society.

Moreover, our vision for the future for ScienceLive is about LIVE science, including participation and having your say in science events as they unfold. You'll be able to find announcements of science events that are broadcast live on this site, and you can tune in. We'll be seeking to provide interactive features for this, to make your virtual visit to the event as engaging as possible.

Partners

ScienceLive is seeking to be a joint initiative between organisations who run popular science events, and are already putting these events online. By creating a joint listing and archive, more content is available to people visiting the site. Currently ScienceLive has the following partners

  • Cambridge University Science Productions (at Cambridge University)
  • The BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science)
  • Cambridge Science Festival (at Cambridge University)

Open Access

All our materials can be viewed free of charge. However, this does not mean that the materials will automatically be useful to our potential audiences. We are continuously seeking to unlock our content, so that it can be discovered and used by our audience. For instance, we are working with schools to make sure that our offering is relevant to them.
